National Cinnamon Roll Day: Ranking Glasgow’s best swirls

In honour of National Cinnamon Roll Day, I ventured out into the city to find out the best version of the fan-favourite sweet treat that Glasgow has to offer.

 6. Starbucks3/10

In the last place which may be surprising to some, we have Starbucks.

A very dry swirl with little cinnamon flavour and an overpowering taste of dates, this was quite the disappointment.

With Starbucks pricing their bone-dry delicacy at £3 a swirl, sadly, it would be impossible to rank this higher than a three.

5. Lidl- 5/10

In fifth place, we have the ever-reliable Lidl.

The cheapest roll on the hunt at 79p reflected the taste of the treat.

The first bite gave the roll some hope with some strong hints of cinnamon, but that sensation fades quickly as you get into the thick dough which is, unfortunately, very dry.

However, this was the biggest roll that I found today so at that price, you can’t complain!

4. Sainsbury’s- 6/10

Coming in at fourth place, we have Sainsbury’s ‘Taste the Difference’ range with their cinnamon bun pudding.

The dessert, which is advertised as best served hot had an exciting twist of caramel sauce bedded on top of the bun but this just took away from the cinnamon flavour.

A shame, because I did feel that this had some great potential.

The pack of two cost £4.35 which compared to Starbucks, is decent value.

3. Off the Rails- 7/10

Gaining the bronze medal in the best cinnamon roll hunt in Glasgow goes to Off the Rails.

The cafe, located on Dundas Street added their unique orange cream on top of the bun which was a welcome twist.

Although slightly bready, the bun had an ample amount of cinnamon flavour and was very enjoyable.

This one was on the pricier side at £3.90 but this lived up to its value and you get a great atmosphere in the cafe to accompany it.

2. M&S- 8/10

The runner-up in the hunt is M&S with a delightful cinnamon roll.

The baked treat was filled with flavour and was a real treat to the tastebuds with strong hints of cinnamon being felt with every bite.

At a very reasonable price of £1.50, M&S proved it is not all about the price tag with this lovely value-for-money snack.

1. Cinnabon- 10/10

In first place, it is the new kid on the block, American giant Cinnabon in Silverburn shopping centre.

The franchise opened up the store two weeks ago, making it their second location in Scotland alongside their shop in Livingston.

With an extensive menu of sweet cinnamon treats, each one I tried was uniquely fantastic.

I went with the OG Cinnabon, the Lotus Biscoff Bon and the Oreo Bon and they were all bursting with flavour.

I also opted for the option of having them served hot which just made the buns melt in my mouth.

Although this was on the pricier side, I believe you are truly getting your money’s worth these were worth every penny.
