Fans left in the dark as biggest clash of the season will kick off untelevised
Celtic vs Aberdeen. Two teams with two perfect records are set to clash this Saturday at 3pm.
Who will maintain the perfect start to their 2024/25 Scottish Premiership campaign? Or will the score be settled with a point each?
One thing is for sure, points will be dropped on this thrilling head-to-head. Excited to watch? I’m afraid we have some bad news…
You would expect a match between two teams, both sitting on 21 points and each having triumphed over their last seven opponents, would be televised for the world to watch.
But no, the game will not be shown anywhere in the UK except of course, Celtic Park.
So unless you have a ticket to the anticipated clash, radio coverage, score updates or outside cheers/ boos will have to make do.
So why is this the case? Why haven’t any TV broadcasters snapped the chance to showcase such a good game There’s a couple of reasons.
Firstly Sky Sports have an agreement where they can only cover five games from each Scottish Premiership ground each season.
With two fixtures already showcased at Paradise, you would assume that the broadcasters are holding out for bigger fixtures further down the line.
The second reason is that the Glasgow giants decided to pull out of the SPFL’s agreement with Premier Sports to show certain fixtures.
It is believed that the Hoops prefer their season ticket holders to be seated at 3pm rather than having the game time changed with little notice.
The 3pm slot also ensures that both season ticket holders and away fans are the only viewers who can watch the game exclusively as it falls under the broadcast blackout rule.
So if you aren’t attending Saturday’s game in-person, make sure to have your notifications ready to see who will come out victorious and top of the Scottish Premiership.
