Assai Records makes Black Friday into Mini Record Store

Sauchiehall street record shop Assai records are celebrating Black Friday with their first mini record store day.

The event offers over one hundred special; limited edition pressings of albums old and new.

Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish meet legends like The Beatles and The Ramones on the store’s shelves as customers queued up Blytheswood street for the shop’s 9am opening.

The event is a scaled down take on National Record Store Day which happens annually in April and sees labels from across the world send over similar special releases for fans to snap up.

Cam Black from Assai Records said: “It’s similar to the one in April, it’s run by Record Store Day; all the independents do them.

We’ve only been doing them for 2 years now, since we only opened last March.”

Stock that hasn’t left the shop by close tonight will be posted on Assai’s website for anyone who couldn’t make it down to the storefront.

Being the first of its kind, stock is limited in comparison to April’s National Record Store Day, but it proved a success none the less, and not just for customers.

Cam added: “This is the part of the job we love, we’re really lucky to do it.

“It’s great to be able to see these records first and to see the excitement on their faces when they get the record they’ve queued for.

“Yeah, it’s really worth doing the job for.”

This little Sauchiehall joint is no stranger to events, with listening parties and signings, Mini Record Store Day is only the latest in a long line of ways you can come down and love the music.
