‘Bring Palestine back to the forefront’: International Day of Solidarity
By Jodi Sneddon
International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People aims to highlight the ongoing struggle for Palestine rights and self-determination. Established in 1977 by the United Nations, today marks the adoption of the UN resolution in 1947, suggesting the division of Palestine.
Laura Yapp, co-president of the Palestine Solidarity Society, at Glasgow Caledonian University, said: “As wars go on they become less and less at the forefront of people’s minds, so for me today is about bringing Palestine back to the forefront, I think it should be at the forefront every day.”
Events, worldwide, including seminars and cultural programs, highlights the struggles faced by Palestinians living under occupation who are forced to survive in unliveable conditions.
The day is in support of global calls for a peaceful resolution to the on-going Israeli-Palestinian conflict where the Israeli Prime minister has since had a warrant issued for his arrest regarding war crimes.
