Union to ballot on strike action involving Scottish water workers

Unite the Union sets out for industrial action as they have announced a ballot for all members that are employed by Scottish Waters. This comes after a poor pay offer made by the public body following Scottish Water CEO earning £483,000.
The pay offer would’ve been a 3.4% increase of pay for the 500 Scottish water members that are associated with Unite which was swiftly rejected by a majority of the union.
Scottish water then made an approach of an additional £200 which was also rejected by the union citing that their associate branch in Northern Ireland had an over 5% increase.
This is also alongside the union pointing out that in August 2024, it was reported that Scottish Water executives were awarded £227,000 in bonuses.
Due to the key frontline roles undertaken by Unite’s membership in sewers, water treatment centers and on pipework, any industrial action will directly impact Scottish Water’s ability to respond to water leakages, flooding, pollution and quality concerns.
However as the Ballot is yet to take place, its still an uncertainty on what decision will be voted on.
