Motherwell has accepted the resignation of manager Stuart Kettlewell following “personal abuse” directed at him and his family.
The manager, who has been with the club since 2023, has stated the abuse he has suffered came from a section of fans who targeted him and members of his family.
In a statement Kettlewell’s family said that they “no longer felt comfortable” going to the games.
Despite sitting fifth in the league some fans of the club had had turned against Kettlewell, particularly in the wake of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup defeat by St Johnstone on January 18.
Motherwell confirmed their director, Brian Caldwell, had “very reluctantly” accepted Glaswegian’s resignation and said: “It’s really sad that Stuart felt that the time was right to move on”
Assistant Manager Stephen Frail is set to take charge of the team for Sunday’s match, against Celtic, assisted by Jon Obika, Richard Foster, and the backroom staff.
James, a member of Motherwell Fan Association, said: “I think we needed a change in the near future but the way this has happened is the big issue with.”
