Scottish Water has announced a national rise in water prices in April.

The price of water is set to rise by almost ten percent on April 1, affecting household expenditures nationwide.

Average water bills are expected to increase by approximately £3.68.

Keith Sinclair, Scottish Water media manager, said: “People of Scotland are rightly proud of their water and maintaining what we have now means long-term sustainable investment.

“We have all seen, including in the last few days in Scotland, how weather conditions are becoming more extreme, and we are seeing more frequent periods of both drought and significant rainfall.

“Our current infrastructure is under significant pressure and without increased investment we risk reduction in service quality in the future.”

In 2024, the price of water was already increased by almost nine percent.

Glasgow resident Rachael Rafferty said: “Putting the prices up increases the chance of difficulties that two parent households are already facing, struggling as it is to keep a house.”

The annual increase which will total to £44 is said to be part of a strategy to balance charges.

Businesses will also see the same increase in water charges as households.
