Glasgow dog star search: comedy festival show auditions to be held next week

The playwright of a show taking place as part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival is searching for a canine companion to join its ensemble casts.
Michael Lewis, who is also directing the play, is hunting for a talented dog, capable of performing tricks on cue for his farcical comedy, Walking Shadows.
The show will run at Websters Theatre from March 20th-22nd and the four-legged cameo role requires is open to amateur and professional pooches alike, according to Lewis.
He said: “No, there’s no experience required at all, the only thing we need is for them to be able to obey commands and not to have stage fright.
However, that has not stopped Lewis from receiving some esteemed resumes.
“I am getting a few people coming forward saying, that their dog has appeared on television, or it does dance tricks, or sniffs out explosives.
“So, the contacts I’ve been getting so far have been pretty diverse, and some of the stories are amazing – so the auditions should be good fun.”
Auditions will be taking place at the Social Hub in Glasgow’s Merchant City on Tuesday, February 12 from 2 pm, ahead of the show’s debut during the festival’s run the following month.
One hopeful auditionee is Daphne, a miniature Dachshund from the city’s Westend. Her owner Victoria Scott, believes her dog possesses all the traits of a would-be stage debutant.
She said: “For as much as she is small in stature, she brings so much sass, and it would be absolutely perfect for the stage.
“She’s got a lovely swagger when she walks and a wee twinkle in her eye.”
Scott says that Daphne has been working hard ahead of auditions and is “primed to go.”
She said: “She’s been her tricks at home and now that she’s reached the ripe old age of seven, we think that she’s ready to make it on stage.”
