Glasgow Mosque becomes city’s latest A-listed building

Scotland’s largest Mosque, Glasgow Central Mosque, is now the city’s newest category A listed building.
Designed in 1977 and opened in 1984, the Mosque replaced its predecessor, a converted tenement flat on the site where the Glasgow Sheriff Court now sits – across the road.
Constructed with red sandstone to keep in with its surroundings, the Mosque was designed with international help to ensure a traditional look with a Glasgow twist.
Omar Afzal from the Mosque said: “It’s great to see the Mosque and its community receive the recognition they deserve for the work they do in the community.”
