NEW Exhibition revealed at Glasgow School of Art to celebrate its 60th Anniversary

The specialised printing and typesetting facility, The Caseroom brings together works by current and former students as well as staff and a wide range of professional collaborators.

It includes work from when it was first established in 1964 all the way through to 2025.

The Caseroom has re-emerged as a developing space for current students as well as a viewing opportunity for the general public.

Ruth Kirkby, co-founder of the Caseroom encourages the public to come and see the work produced through the years.

She told the Glasgow Standard: “The general public don’t really see what we do, and it’s nice to have an exhibition to celebrate 60 years of the Caserooms that expands a range of processes and types of work that has changed over time.

“This isn’t a process that is used commercially anymore, so the kind of work we make is quite different.”

The Caseroom has a particular focus on letterpress printing, which involves using raised metal or wooden type to create impressions on paper.

The equipment stored in the exhibition has faced many problems over the past 20 years, the two fires in 2014 and 2018 caused lasting damage to the art on showcase.

The cracked glass and missing roof tiles can still be seen in the exhibition, but it’s something they are proud to showcase.

Many Glasgow School of Art students are proud to have their work presented in the 60th anniversary celebrations.

Connor, a graphic design student in fourth year told the Standard: “It’s good getting first hand experience with this type of equipment. I just finished a project which I got to use the letterpress for, and the fact it’s going to get put in the exhibition is really cool.”

The exhibition is free to the public and open until the 26th of February.
