5 million Scottish homes to be hit by energy price cap rise

Households in Scotland are facing another rise in their energy bills when Ofgem raises its price cap by 6.4%.
The increase, which will take effect from the 1st April, will lead to an increase of around £9.25 a month, or £111 per annum.
The price cap is set every three months, and Ofgem previously increased their costs by around 1.2% in January.
In a press release this morning, Jonathan Brearley, Ofgem CEO, said: “We know that no price rise is ever welcome.
“Our reliance on international gas markets leads to volatile wholesale prices, and continues to drive up bills.”
Ofgem also noted that it is working with the UK government to help provide financial aid to those who will be affected most by the new price cap.
There are plans to scrap unmanageable debt for those in the worst of situations.
“We welcome the government’s support for these plans, and their plans to expand the Warm Home Discount, which will also offer financial help to nearly three million more households that need it most.”
Ofgem continue to urge customers to contact their supplier if they are worried to ensure they are receiving all available help.
