Glasgow is Scotland’s most violent city as police report ‘burnout’

Glasgow has been named Scotland’s most violent city, after the Scottish Government released the most recent crime statistics.

Glasgow has been reported to have a crime rate of 830 per 10,000 of the population, which is significantly higher than the national average of 543.

A total of 52,476 crimes were reported to police last year, marking a four percent increase from 2023.

High levels of police ‘burnout’ have been recorded from the Scottish police force.

Scottish Police Federation (SPF) chairman David Threadgold, said: “Within policing, there is an understanding that there will be an element of disruption, but the inefficiencies in the courts system and the impact of sickness absence is having a significant impact.

“If police aren’t getting the rest they need, can they carry out their duties at the highest level?”

A survey conducted by the SPF revealed that only five percent of police responders say they get uninterrupted days for rest.

The survey argues that limited rest time will lead to low moral within the officers.

Some members of the public seem unconcerned with rising disruption in the Glasgow police.

One Glasgow resident said: “Glaswegians, even if they’re scary they’re friendly. I would be more worried in Edinburgh to be honest.”
