Merchant City restaurant bags flower award

A central Glasgow restaurant has won an award for its colourful flowers.

Amore, on Ingram Street in the Merchant City, won the Robertson Silver Spade in the Let Glasgow Flourish awards.

The eatery was praised for its “magnificent” floral display, which features a range of colours including the red, white and green of the Italian flag.

Jordan Tam, supervisor at the restaurant, said the award was: “a good achievement.”

“It helps to add some colour to the city centre, and hopefully bring more people into Merchant City.”

The prize is handed out by The Incorporation of Gardeners of Glasgow to celebrate premises in the city that use gardening to brighten the cityscape.

Previous recipients of the award include Meze Meze in the West End and the Kimpton Blythswood Square hotel.

Amore’s collection of fauna, which wraps around the building, at the corner of Ingram and Shuttle Street, features a variety of colours.

Red, green and white, the classic shades of the Italian flag, are particularly prominent amongst the flora.

Mr Tam added: “the award came as a real surprise. About a month ago we took a call, telling us we had won.

“We weren’t expecting it, but we’re really excited to have been recognised officially.”
