Greece gaffer names squad to face Tartan Army

Jovanovic has named his squad to face Steve Clarkes men

By Lewis Blaikie

Ivan Jovanovic has named his Greece squad as his side take on Scotland next Thursday.

Scotland travel to Athens for the first leg of a two-legged play off tie in the UEFA Nations League.

A win in the tie would see Scotland remain in the top division of UEFAs newest international tournament.

Clarke’s men look to kick off 2025 in good form, as they come off the back of a 2-1 victory over Poland at the end of last year, with Andy Robertson scoring a late winner.

Robertson looks set to link up with Liverpool teammate Konstantinos Tsimikas, as he has been called up for Greece, but there won’t be a 3-way Liverpool link as Scotland’s star man from the last campaign, Ben Doak, is out on the medical table for most of the rest of this season.

Clarke is set to name his squad tomorrow, with striker Lyndon Dykes joining Doak on Scotland’s injury list.

Despite not having Dykes, Che Adams is in fine form in Italy and looks likely to be the main striker for the tie.

Adams is on course to break Denis Law’s record of most goals scored in the Italian top flight by a Scotsman, a record which has stood for 64-years.

The former Southampton striker said breaking the record would be “extraordinary”.

Former Serie A man, Aaron Hickey is slowly returning from injury, but the Brentford fullback also looks unlikely to feature in the crucial tie.

Jovanovic has called up a squad to strike fear into Scottish hearts, with the aforementioned Tsimikas included, as well as Champions League stars for Christos Tzolis and Vangelis Pavlidis of Club Brugge and SL Benfica respectively.

The Scots will travel back to a packed Hampden on Sunday, March 23rd in the return leg of the fixture, with a sell-out crowd expected at the national stadium.
