House Guest Festival cancel gigs at The Garage after Pro-Trump comments

A number of performances at The Garage Attic have been cancelled following comments made by the venue’s owner, Donald Macleod.

The popular nightclub and live music venue was set to host a number of bands as part of next months House Guest Festival. The decision to remove the venue as one of the four hosts came after Macleod posted a column on Substack titled: “Make Scotland Great Again: Welcome Home Donald J Trump”.

In the column, Donald Macleod said that the Scottish Government should be rolling out the ‘Trump tartan’ and inviting him to dinner with the King. Following backlash, the venue owner apologised saying he made a “grave error in judgement”.

Despite his apology, organisers of the House Guest Festival announced on Saturday that The Garage would no longer be hosting the festival due to Macleod’s column. In an Instagram post, House Guest fest said, “To Host a stage of House Guest in The Garage would go against our morals, as we believe in a community that is proudly against Trump, his fascist ideologies and anyone that aligns themselves with either”.

The CCA, Nice N Sleazy, and The Variety Bar will all host gigs as part of the festival which starts on the 12th of April.
