Scottish Sudanese communities gathered outside the Scottish Parliament this afternoon to stand with the people of the Sudan.

They are calling on the Scottish and UK governments to supply humanitarian aid to those who have not been able to escape the conflict.

An evacuation mission is in process by the British government to vacate those fleeing from the conflict.

A reported 4000 British passport holders have been stranded in the country since clashes between armed forces started eleven days ago.

Rania Amin, a Sudanese refugee living in Glasgow said: “The fighting has been ongoing in residential areas and hundreds of civilians have been killed. Those who are wounded are unable to reach hospitals, medical facilities and health care staff are being targeted.

“There are severe shortages in food, water and fuel. Telecoms are intermittent, which means we are unable to check on our loved ones and make sure they are safe.”

Banking systems are also not working within the country and looting has become an issue.

Rania said: “We call on the Scottish and UK governments to show strong political will through endorsing our demands for the provision of emergency humanitarian assistance in the form of food, water and medical aid”.
