Mugdock park investigations

Police found a body in Mugdock reservoir last night which has been confirmed to be David Yates.

Yates is the partner of 35 year old teacher Marelle Sturrock who was found dead at her flat in Jura Street in Glasgow on Tuesday morning.

David Yates was treated as a missing person after Sturrock’s murder.

Later on in the week it was confirmed that Yates was suspected of killing his fiancé and was wanted in connection with the death.

Police have been searching Mugdock Park since Tuesday but have now left.

There is an ongoing investigation into the murder but it is not suspected that there is anyone else involved in the death.

On Tuesday there were police helicopters patrolling the area and police have been searching the park and reservoir since Tuesday.

Specialist officers with diving ger were spotted at the park during the search.

Sturrock was 29 weeks pregnant at the time of her death and she was a popular teacher.

She moved from the highlands to Glasgow when she was 17 to study musical theatre.

Marelle was also an actress and it was her colleagues who raised the alarm early on Tuesday.

A flag outside the school she worked at is now flying at half mast to show respect for their teacher.

The headteacher at the school released a tribute for Sturrock and she said:

“Marelle has been a much-loved member of our school community since her probationary year more than six years ago and has taught many year groups throughout her time at the school.

“We will all miss her so much.

“She was a lovely, kind, diligent and considerate person who loved and made time for everyone.

“Marelle used her artistic talents across the school and was our music champion who has been a key player in the success of our school choirs; with one of her classes going to see her on stage at The King’s in one of her many acting roles outside of school.”

There are no longer police patrolling the park as of the 28th of April and the park is open to the public.
