Tenement Trail Preview: San Jose and many, many more

2 min read

The annual Glasgow music festival Tenement Trail takes place tomorrow, with something for everyone on offer.

With acts all day and night at a number of East End venues, one £35 ticket gets you access to your pick of over 50 gigs.

Now headlined by Vistas after Circa Waves had to pull out through illness, the Barrowland Ballroom, St. Luke’s, Van Winkle, and McChuills among others will welcome artists and bands of various sizes for a whole day of live music.

With names such as Lewis Capaldi, Sam Fender, and Yungblud playing this festival in their earlier career, a number of smaller acts will be hoping to put their name out there during this popular event.

One such band is San Jose, who sat down with the Glasgow Standard to discuss their festival debut.

While they will be opening at Van Winkle tomorrow, we joined them at another event venue – The Gallowgate Pub – to talk Tenement Trail. You can see a snippet of this below:

The San Jose boys, Callum and Charlie, made it clear that they are “buzzing” for tomorrow.

Being the opening act at Van Winkle, they bear the responsibility of first sound check, but are rewarded with the rest of the day free to explore the various acts for themselves.

Sipping on a couple of pints, they modestly explained how they think they are “in a good space”, with so many now successful acts having played a slot similar to them in the past.

They added that they don’t like to think too far ahead of themselves, preferring to stay grounded and in the moment. And at the moment, they are excited.

Charlie spoke of the community around bands of their size in Glasgow, noting that it “feels good” to have so many people in the same industry all willing to communicate, socialise, and share content with one another.

While they reiterated that they don’t like to think about their future too much, they divulged to us their plan to stand out among the crowd tomorrow. We’ll keep their gimmick a secret, but it is exciting, it is funny, and you’ll have to go yourself to find out.

As well as introducing yourself to San Jose and a plethora of other up-and-coming bands, festival headliners Vistas, Bemz, Swim School, Voodoos, and more will be playing, with shows going from 2pm until as late as 1am.

The next Sam Fender or Lewis Capaldi might be playing tomorrow, so buy a ticket and make a day of it!
