1 min read

Glasgow has the highest rate of gambling harm in Scotland, according to research conducted by a prominent advisory charity, GambleAware.

The analysis highlighted a decline in the number of individuals seeking assistance for gambling addiction in Scotland.

The study also indicated that 3.5% of Glasgow’s population exhibits an at-risk problem gambling, surpassing the UK average.

The Glasgow Central constituency reported the highest rate, estimating that 4.9% of its residents fall into the highest category of problem gambling.

The dangers of gambling addiction encompasses financial losses, adverse effects on mental and physical health.

Notably, only 17% of individuals in Scotland experiencing any level of gambling harm sought support services, in contrast to the higher UK average of 21%.

In addition to these findings, GambleAware disclosed that 60.5% of people in Scotland engaged in some form of gambling in 2022.

This equates to more than 2.7 million adults participating in gambling activities.

The study identified the five Scottish areas with the highest estimated rates of gambling problems: Glasgow City, Dundee City, North Lanarkshire, Aberdeen City, and the City of Edinburgh.

GambleAware reiterated its commitment to aiding individuals by providing the National Gambling Helpline (0808 8020 133), operating 24/7.
