Movember: what is the mental health movement and why does it matter?

1 min read

The charity that has took over social media and men’s faces in the 21st century.

Since the turn of the millennium mental health has become less and less of a taboo subject in society.

What was once not given the time of day has now become an important factor in how many live their lives.

One of the most prominent movements in the United Kingdom is Movember – a charity who aim to tackle the stigma around men’s mental health by showing a visible sign of support (such as growing a moustache) throughout the month of November.

The organisation specifically targets men’s mental health as many guys find it more difficult to express their emotions.

The latest statistics released by the National records of Scotland (NRS) showed that the male suicide mortality rate in Scotland was nearly three times higher than females in 2022.

This is part of the reason why men’s mental health has been targeted by charities such as Movember and why many raise money for the cause.
