Takeaway Drivers to strike on Valentine’s Day

Deliveroo and Uber Eats drivers to strike this Valentines

3000 drivers to strike in London alone

Takeaway drivers are to strike in their thousands this Valentine’s Day after most say that employment status has left them unable to earn national living wage.

Drivers from companies such as Deliveroo and Uber Eats say they will strike tomorrow over their job status, with 3000 to strike in London alone.

Delivery drivers are generally classed as self-employed, which means they have no guarantee over pay and companies are not legally obliged to pay national living wage which is set to rise in April.

A spokesperson for Deliveroo said: “Deliveroo aims to provide riders with the flexible work riders tell us they value, attractive earning opportunities and protections.

“Thousands of people apply to work with Deliveroo each month, rider retention rates are high and the overwhelming majority of riders tell us that they are satisfied working with us.”
